CVHS Science Department Receives Grant

Chartiers Valley High School was presented a $500 grant check on behalf of Tri-State Petroleum and ExxonMobil for educational needs in math and science. The grant, which was one of 42 available to schools across the country served by Exxon or Mobil stations, was for the school’s participation in the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance program. Chartiers Valley is using the scholarship to better its science education.

“This grant will allow us to bring a greater amount of technology into the classroom,” Dr. Terri Flynn, Chartiers Valley High School’s principal, explains. “The products will certainly enhance student learning.” The ExxonMobil Educational Alliance program is designed to provide Exxon and Mobile retailers with an opportunity to invest in the future of their communities through educational grants to neighboring schools.

The $500 went towards a laptop and cart. Mrs. Marino, a physics teacher at the high school, was ecstatic. “The cart went to Mrs. Lucas,” she says.

“It is allowing her to have classes on Blended Schools.

Students in her 9th grade integrated science classes can experience Blended Schools much easier now that we have the laptops and transportation with the cart, since Mrs. Lucas switches in and out of rooms.” (This article, written by Michael Moses, first appeared in The Ant.)
